Chemistry in the environment

I am interesting in pursing innovative tools to answer questions related to organization and function of ecological systems,  including chemical markers such as stable isotopes. To this end, I have collaborated on work developing new models for addressing hierarchical structure (e.g. size or temporal gradients) in stable isotope data.

Budgets of elemental nutrients in the environment can be an important ecological process, and another of my collaborations examines nutrient storage and excretion in threespine stickleback, a fish species with varying morphological traits. I am also collaborating with researchers at University of Alaska to describe how hydrology influences stream sensitivity to salmon-related nutrient pulses, and am pursing new work on ecological stoichiometry for the dominant invertebrates in lakes and streams (zooplankton and aquatic insects).
